PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

JUNE 22, 2018

It has been a while since I have last posted anything on our site. Shooting season is in full swing and clubs are doing an excellent job. One shoot that I would like to mention in the Western Zone Championship that was held June 9th and 10th. This year hosted by the Allied Sportsmen's Club. If you were not in attendance, you missed a beauty. They had four years to prepare for this event and they didn't waste any time in preparing. Everything from the grounds, target setting, food, score keepers, filling machines and above all. the numerous volunteers made this one of the best zone shoots in recent years. The weather was excellent, which helped, but the shoot ran smoothly and everyone enjoyed the experience. To everyone at Allied Sportsmen, very well done. You should be extremely proud. Just shows what hard work can accomplish.

On another note, the High School Trap League Championship held on June 9th at Bridgeport Gun Club and the NYSATA home grounds, was equally successful. It was reported to me that at least 650 high school shooters were in attendance. Along with many hundreds of parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Weather was perfect. The event  ran without a hitch. Every field was used and I was informed that there were no equipment problems. Camping was available. Plenty of food and cold beverages. A grand experience for all. Many thanks to all the people that worked very hard for many months prior so that these young shooters could compete and have a day to remember.

One last item. On June 28th, there will be a group of volunteers going to the grounds for a day of work. At this time we will be painting the yardage numbers on the state's fields and doing some plumbing up grades in our building. Anyone interested in helping please contact me.

See everyone at the state shoot.

Tim

Hello everyone,
My name is Todd Hosbach. As some of you know, last year we gave out three scholarships in memory of Christopher Vendel. This year, we are looking to give out 1-3 scholarships to New York resident shooters who will be attending college or a trade school. The only shooters not eligible to receive a scholarship are our three past recipients. Just find the link on the NYSATA webpage to download an application. There will be three NYS board members who will overlook the applications. All applications will have all names redacted by a third party. Tim Herbstsommer, Dave Cichelli and I look forward to reviewing your application. Please have applications in by June 16, 2018.

DELEGATES ARTICLE FOR MAY 2018 TRAP AND FIELD

Greetings to all from New York State.  I hope that everyone is doing well and shooting plenty of registered targets.

I am sorry to say that we have lost two of our New York State ATA family.  New York State ATA Hall of Fame Inductee Don Dauer and Richard Benoit have passed away. Don Dauer  of Phoenix, NY was 91 years of age when he passed away on April 17, 2018.  Don was a great friend to trapshooting, always plugging the sport on his radio show.  Our deepest sympathies to Don’s family on his passing.

Richard Benoit was 50 years of age when he passed away on April 21, 2018.  Richard was the son of 500,000 ATA target member Joe Benoit and the step-son of New York State ATA Hall of Fame Inductee Nancy Benoit.  Richard was a great guy who everyone liked.  Our deepest sympathies to Joe, Nancy and Richard’s entire family on his passing.

The 14th annual Empire Grand American is now history and we are glad to say that the shoot was a success.  The target count for the event was 204,800, compared to 200,000 in 2017.  This constituted a 2.40% increase over last year.

Antonio Lobo was the Singles Champion with a lone 200 straight.  John Costa was the Doubles Champion with a score of 98.  Edward Frisillo took the Handicap Championship with a 95.  Luke Cowart was the High-All-Around Champion with a 387 x 400 and Lloyd Beecraft was the High-Over-All Champion with a 948 x 1,000.  All trophy winners can be viewed on the New York State ATA web page:  www.nysata.com and also in Trap and Field Magazine.  This was fine shooting by all these shooters.

During the Empire Grand American, I am pleased to tell you that Donald “Scott” Grossman had his first 100 straight on May 10, 2018.  Excellent shooting, Scotty!

Thanks to everyone who worked or helped during the shoot.  It is appreciated.

Quite a few New Yorkers traveled to Elysburg, PA to attend the Keystone Open at the PA State Homegrounds.  Trophy winners from New York were:  In the Schoonover Singles, James Dries was the Class B Runner-up and Alexcis Coningsby was Lady 1 Runner-up;  during the Shriners Hospital Handicap, Alexcis Coningsby was the Champion, and Mary Dries was Lady 1 Winner; in the T & L Hoagies Doubles, Justin Slater was AAA Winner, Class C Winner was Jeff Bell, Class C Runner-up was James Teller, Charles Wildenstein was Class D Runner-up and Alexcis Coningsby was Lady 1 Runner-Up; during the Singles Championship, Justin Slater was the Champion, Class AA Runner-Up was Chad Landon, Class C Winner was Deb Bell, Class C Runner-Up was Marshall Taylor,  Dave Bills was Veteran Runner-Up, William Wallis was Senion Veteran Runnerr-Up, and Lady 1 Runner-Up was Alexcis Coningsby; in the All-American Woodwork Doubles, Class AAA Winner was Justin Slater, Michael Fox, Jr. was AA Winner, Mark Fritz was Class B Runner-up, William O’Brien was Class D Runner-up, Joshua Buchiere was Junior Gold Runner-Up; and Lady 1 Winner was Alexcis Coningsby; during the Doubles Chamionship, Justin Slater was AAA Winner, Michael Fox, Jr. was Class AA Winner, Class A Runner-Up was Vincent Barranco, Jeff Bell was Class B Winner, and Thomas Horenbueg was Veteran Runner-up; during the Handicap Championship, 4th Place was taken by Michael Fox, Jr., Sub-Veteran Runner-up was taken by Urban Womer, and Veteran Runner-up was David

-2-

Woythal; in the High-All-Around, Justin Slater was the Champion, Class AAA Winner was Michael Fox, Jr.,

Class AA Winner was Urban Womer, and Lady 1 Winner was Alexcis Coningsby; and finally in the High-Over-All, Class AAA was taken by Justin Slater, and Lady 1 Winner was Alexcis Coningsby.  All trophy winners can be viewed on Bob Stuart’s web page:  www.rjstuart.com and also in Trap and Field Magazine.  This was great shooting by these fine New Yorkers.

Next up for New York State will be the 157th annual New York State Shoot.  The state shoot will be held from Tuesday, July 10, 2018 to Sunday, July 15, 2018.  After the state shoot, the United States Eastern Zone Shoot will be held at our homegrounds from Thursday, July 19, 2018 to Sunday, July 22, 2018.  We hope that you all plan to attend.

See you all soon, and good shooting.  May God Bless.

NEW BENCHES AND GUN RACKS

The support we received for the new score chairs was amazing.

Many shooters were disappointed that they were unable to donate for the chairs last year.

We are looking at these beautiful benches and gun racks to compliment our new chairs.

Cost per bench and rack is $375.00 for the set.  We would like to place one on every field.

We would also provide a nameplate on the units for donor recognition.

If you are interested, please send an email to Email Tim here

or call  585-533-9339

We thank all the shooters, clubs and businesses for their continued support.

It is very much appreciated.!!
